ABSTRACT

Cognitive—developmental research is currently the study of differences among age groups rather than the study of change. The overwhelming majority of experiments in the field are designed to identify differences between the reasoning of children of different ages; hardly any examine how these changes are generated. The result is that we know a great deal about differences in reasoning at different ages, but little about the change process itself.
