ABSTRACT

One of us recently taught a seminar on the repressed memory controversy. From time to time, speakers with a wide range of beliefs visited the class to talk about their experiences. One day a young woman (CA), a graphic computer artist, told the class that she had gone to a pain clinic because of pain and numbness in her wrists that had become so intense that it woke her up in the middle of the night. At this point, some of the people in the class suggested that CA’s wrist pain was computer-related, and anticipated that her physician had suggested a keyboard wrist-rest. But he had not.
