ABSTRACT

The Millon Inventories may be taught as part of an introductory or advanced personality assessment course, as part of a seminar series, or as part of a course specifically devoted to the personality disorders. Because of its more focused character, the third option probably presents the best opportunity for discussion of the issues involved in the development of the inventories. The first and second, however, are probably more common. This chapter presents an approach to teaching the MCMI (T. Millon, C. Millon, & Davis, 1994) that the authors have found to be effective over the course of many years, in a variety of different venues, with a variety of time constraints. Particular sections may be expanded or contracted, depending on the level of the audience, their interests, and the focus of the class or seminar. With some practice, the material may be introduced in as little as 3 hours, or expanded to fill several weeks.
