ABSTRACT

Even a cursory observation reveals that cultures vary in tenns of their political, social, economic, and physical environments. For instance, the life experiences and the social arrangements of people living in Baffin Island, where temperatures are often known to drop to 40°C, are likely to be very different from those living in Cheerapunji, where it rains over 400 in. a year! Studies have also shown that there are differences in levels of independence and conformity between the food-gathering communities and the food-hunting communities (Berry, 1967). In addition to physical and geographical differences, it is clear that cultures also vary with respect to their value systems.
