ABSTRACT

KRISTEVA STRIKES BACK These two cross-readings are far from symmetrical. In the last chapter we saw an assimilation of Kristevan theory by Derridean in an engulfmg interpretation. A different set of tactics, however, is required in order to negotiate Derrida's work from within the framework of Kristeva's. This chapter will be characterized by distancing and opposition, attack and defence. Clearly, it will not merely constitute a reply to the previous one but will allow Kristeva to take the offensive. It is not exactly easy, however, to mark one's distance from a moving object, from a philosophy that claims neither to propose theses nor to defend positions but which instead resembles a set of strategies, receding before any advance.
