Creativity in Research
BACKGROUND A propensity for doing research (above all else) might be related to scholastic achievement at a much earlier age. Psychoanalysts, for instance, would subscribe to the view that patterns of behaviour repeat themselves throughout life. Similarly, research workers are often faced with the funny question, "How did you ever think ofit?" as ifknowledge ofthe past explains the present. A brief account of my educational background may enable others, even experimental psychologists, to ponder the roots of originality.
