ABSTRACT

In order to provide appropriately for teaching the talented it is essential to know who they are and how they function. However, there is considerable disagreement among experts on what talent is, and which features can reliably be used to distinguish talented children. Nevertheless, schemes of special education continue to be devised for them, often with considerable claims for success. The author's survey of international research (Freeman, 1998) has been aimed at finding out some of the best ways to educate pupils who have the potential to make a creative and valuable contribution to knowledge and the arts, and so possibly to affect the way people think and act.
