ABSTRACT

The focus of this chapter is on the relationship between talent and self. It is our premise that talent should be a constitutive part of one's selfreflection, so that talented people are aware, as soon as possible in their personal development, of the existence of exceptional qualities and of the performance areas in which these qualities can most productively be applied. This should include awareness not only of the existence of specific qualities and their facilitating environments, but also of the obstacles, in their own selves and in the situation, that prevent the realisation of these qualities.
