Third Step: Explanatory Dimensions
L Descriptions and explanations go hand in glove; it does not make sense to give reasons for conflict behaviour that is not yet depicted in words. Paving the way for this chapter, Part II has therefore described five main components of conglomerated conflict behaviour and the elements of integration and distribution that they have in common. The next layer of theory building asks that old, short and pressing question: why? What determines how conflicting parties manage their inescapable behavioural dilemmas between integration and distribution? Guided by this question, attention now shifts from the characteristics to the antecedents of the principal party's complex reactions.
