ABSTRACT

The prominent role of narcissistic psychopathology in the borderline has been largely overlooked because:

Kohut had no need to stress it, since his theory includes the borderline personality disorder with the narcissistic personality disorder.

Other writers on the borderline stressed that the principal psychopathology was in object relations, to the detriment of the narcissistic side.

In my own work, the narcissistic psychopathology was included in the concept of failure to individuate, a notion too general to do it justice.
