ABSTRACT

Virginia Eliot (a pseudonym) is a woman just entering her forties. She is dignified and sensitive in appearance, but tends to be so self-effacing in manner and understated in dress that she would be easy to overlook in a group. When she does unbend, she shows a quick intelligence and sharp wit. Even at her most anxious (and that is her predominating affect), she is verbally articulate. She is employed full time as an editor, and does freelance work on the side. She lives in an exclusive relationship with her lover, a woman physician.
