ABSTRACT

Because business executives are among the most highly compensated professionals in the United States, the use of alcohol is highly prevalent in this group. A 1% increase in income has been found to produce a 2.5% increase in wine consumption (Duffy, 1983). Within each age and sex group, alcohol use is more common in those of higher social status than those of lower status (Cisin, 1978). In a survey of over 14,000 employees, college graduates had the highest prevalence (29.6%) of “at risk” drinking (Fielding, Knight, Goetzel, & Laouri, 1991).
