ABSTRACT

This chapter explores assessment of Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) in adults. The previous chapters in this section addressed the differential diagnosis issues that are essential to consider in the assessment of adults with ADD, including neurodevelopmental, neurological, and psychiatric conditions that may accompany ADD. In this chapter, I address how attention deficit can be diagnosed, as well as the assessment of these possible comorbid conditions. I begin by discussing screening information, which will be especially useful for professionals wishing to discern the need for more extensive and specific evaluations. The second part of this chapter details how to test for problems with attention, memory, and executive functions, and includes discussions of specific measures that might be included in an ADD battery. The final part of this chapter addresses an assessment of comorbid psychiatric and neurodevelopmental conditions.
