Plurking Through the Network: Taking a Private Practice Public
Plurking is playing while working and working while playing. When we are working seriously, there is still some enjoyment, a sense of playfulness, involved. At the same time, when we are playing, we still have some sense of our working selves. We both feel that learning how to plurk is a key to a successful private practice. The beauty of this concept is that it prevents the almost schizoid feeling that we are two people: the worker and the "real" person, or, as seen from a different angle, our old friends the entrepreneur and the helper. These two selves compete for time and attention, setting up a prime scenario for burnout. The plurker, on the other hand, is an integrated person capable of simultaneous productive concentration and enjoyment.
