ABSTRACT

A 49-year-old first generation Filipino woman had been employed for several years as a laundry aide. One day she bumped her head as she was pulling clothes out of a large laundry machine. Despite the fact that she did not even sustain a bruise, she complained of head, neck, shoulder, arm, back, and leg pain for the next several years and was unable to return to work. Repeated neurological exams were negative. She was not reassured by physicians' statements that she was healthy and had no serious injury.
