ABSTRACT

Epilepsy The rate of psychiatric disorder has been found to be higher among epileptic children than in healthy controls or in children with other chronic illnesses. It also appears that epileptic patients have a distinctive personality profile, such that those with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) have distinctive features of behavior, emotion, and thought (Table 13.1). Organic Personality Disorder Organic personality disorder occurs in 20% of TLE patients. Predictors of the development of organic personality disorder are an early age of onset of epilepsy and protracted course of the illness.3
