ABSTRACT

The anxiety disorders, panic disorder (with and without agoraphobia), generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder are among the most common psychiatric disorders, with a one-year prevalence of 4 to 8% of the general population. 1 The term anxiety may be defined as an excessive level of arousal and/or awareness that is associated with functional impairment. The different anxiety disorders, as outlined in this chapter, all exhibit both subjective and objective symptoms.
