ABSTRACT
analysis involves an intense intimate dialogue in which the analyst uses himself to find the most painful and most conflictual parts of the analysand and to establish a means by which it is safe enough for a play process to be initiated between both parties which takes cognizance of extraordinary vulnerabilities and sensitivities. This chapter describes analytic work with a little girl who was subject to interactive assault and internal challenge. It begins with my first meeting with Natalia, an hour in the third year of our work together and concludes with material from our final year of work together, by which time Natalia was almost 10.
