One possible reason for this stands out. As Gergen (I985) has pointed out, there is no other solid ground for psychoanalysis or any social science to stand on. There simply has not evolved, either from a narrative perspective or in the growing sophistication of social constructivism, a broadly endorsed alternative means of establishing agreement about what is true.
