ABSTRACT

Recently I Spoke To A Group of students about some of the ideas in this book. They listened thoughtfully, and one earnest student finally said, “But this isn't a ‘cookbook,’ is it? So how is a person supposed to learn how to do therapy like this?” As I told him, I hope that this book can be helpful for such learning. The correct “recipe” for each patient will, of course, be different. Here I offer some general suggestions for integrating symptom-focused interventions into dynamic treatment with four types of symptomatic presentation.
