ABSTRACT
Research in the domain of speech perception has tended to focus on the processes that extract the intended phonetic message from the acoustic signal. However, it is known that, at least in normal connected speech, the processes yielding phonetic percepts utilize information not only from the acoustic signal, but also from syntactic, semantic, and cognitive sources.
