ABSTRACT
This volume has reviewed the communicative achievements of children passing through the first half of the second year of life. The range of research topics and their microanalytic detail give new clarity to our theories and descriptions of development in the transition period. The work reported here brings us closer to identifying causal antecedents of the acquisition of language and communication skills.
