ABSTRACT

It has been known for a considerable time that the two sides of the brain do not serve exactly identical functions. The majority of human beings prefer using the right hand for skilled movements. Hence the left motor area in the frontal lobe, which activates the right hand, is more active and probably more highly differentiated. This superiority of one hemisphere over the other is called cerebral dominance. The left motor area is dominant in righthanders, the right motor area in lefthanders.
