ABSTRACT

An impressive body of research has developed concerning the effect of misleading information on memory. Elizabeth Loftus and her colleagues (Loftus, 1975, 1979, 1981; Loftus & Green, 1980; Loftus, Miller, & Burns, 1978; Loftus & Palmer, 1974) have shown time and again that misleading questions and other types of misleading “postevent” information can alter memory for a prior event.
