ABSTRACT

This chapter summarizes a series of studies conducted for the most part in the laboratory of Investigative Psychiatry of the Massachusetts General Hospital, located at the Erich Lindemann Mental Health Center in Boston. Our emphasis has been on the quantitative analysis of cognitive functions in schizophrenia, especially language utterance, and on the search for relationships between quantitative indices of language disorder, laboratory indices of non-language behavioral anomalies (such as thought disorder and motor behavior), and upon the clinical aspects of the syndromes concerned.
