ABSTRACT
How adolescent personality is related to the work lives of adults is a question that must be answered by looking at people who were young in the past. This chapter focuses on relationships between personality characteristics of some 100 students at a private women’s college in 1958 and 1960 and the amount, span, and status level of their participation in the labor force by age 43. Of course, women who are middle-aged now had, as late adolescents, expectations that were very different from those of college women today. Furthermore, their personalities and prospects were construed differently by social scientists.
