ABSTRACT
Gynecology represents a significant area where self and social frameworks are intertwined. Medical instruction, policy, and practice surrounding gynecology reflects a broad sampling of issues pertinent to visions of women as psychological and social beings. While the institution of medicine has long recognized the psychological connection between women and their bodies, the social framework for this connection has often been ignored. This chapter will examine medical issues, psychological implications, and social frameworks of gynecological surgery.
