ABSTRACT

There is a burgeoning interest in exploring autobiographical material. In this chapter, we describe the method and the uses of Guided Autobiography to facilitate the life review. A central premise underlying this approach is that the life review is perhaps most productively done as part of a guided process that directs attention to major life themes. Participating in Guided Autobiography can help individuals recall details of their lives, identify their strengths and weaknesses, develop a sense of coherence about their lives, and accept their lives as they have evolved.
