ABSTRACT

As evidenced by the range of topics covered in this book, reminiscence is an intriguing yet complex phenomenon to understand. Although it is a behavior that individuals of all ages engage in, it is also commonly thought to serve a special function in late life. Many researchers in the past 25 years have sought to understand how reminiscence might function as an adaptive mechanism to relieve stress, enhance self-esteem, increase life satisfaction, ward off depression, and so on.
