ABSTRACT

The understanding of complex cognitive functions like memory requires understanding of a series of steps along a continuum from the molecular/genetic level, to the cellular level, to the synaptic level, to the network level, and to behavior. At present, there is no research covering all these stages. Important progress is being made in many laboratories all over the world. One important step in the development of memory research was the recent inclusion of genetics. In fact the history of genetics is relatively brief.
