ABSTRACT

The normative dimension is essential to social life. An explicit model of this dimension is crucial for any theory of social action. Notions such as social commitment (d. Cohen & Levesque 1990b, Gasser 1991b, etc.), joint intentions, teamwork (Cohen & Levesque 1991), negotiation (Davies & Smith 1983), social roles (Werner 1989), etc. would be purely metaphorical if their normative character was not accounted for.
