ABSTRACT
For the use of the gerund to form the continuous aspect of verbs, e.g. estoy hablando ‘I’m talking’, estaba diciendo ‘(s)he was saying’, etc., see Chapter 15. For the tendency of English to avoid relative clauses by simply joining nouns with prepositions-‘the meeting in the church by the supermarket at the crossroads’—see the introduction to Chapter 34, note (iii).
