ABSTRACT
Baker (1996) reviews various approaches to meaning construction in literacy with multilingual learners. For example, interaction with exciting books is critical for stimulating children's interest. Thus, fun, developmentally appropriate, and relevant books - part of a so-called whole-language approach - should be a central aspect of literacy teaching to young bilinguals.
