ABSTRACT

In today's chapter we will concentrate on basic vocabulary for talking about history. This needs to include both dates and numbers. Many students are slowed down in their conversation as soon as they have to utter a German date. Don't be put off though. Of course, in writing the problem doesn't really arise. However, when speaking German — in oral exams, for example! — you must be able to understand and use these dates without hesitating too long. It is important that you practise this — another thing you can do while engaged with something else. Try this: every morning, when taking a shower or dressing, you could say the date in German. Also say yesterday's and tomorrow's date — and by the time the exam comes round you will hove had some good solid practice.
