ABSTRACT
Usage a Vous is used in the text (e.g. Vous avez, line 27) as the so-called ‘polite’ second-person singular
form, the normal form of address between people who are unfamiliar with one another, or
between whom there is some ‘social distance’. Tu is the alternative second-person singular
form which is used to address children, friends, family and professional equals. The second-
person plural form is always vous.
