ABSTRACT

I spent three full years on active duty in the navy, from May 12, 1943, to May 19, 1946. About midway, I received my navy wings of gold and became an Ensign. During this time, the navy sent me from coast to coast with stops in between in the United States and to Cuba, Hawaii, and finally across the Pacific, ending up in the Philippines—and, I’m happy to add, safely back again to San Francisco.
