ABSTRACT

There are Utopians who lose themselves in the dream of a benevolent mankind: in an extravagant hope for universal peace and prosperity, linked to a world order of justice and happiness. It has been, in history, a means of a private escape and, on occasion, a personal spur to such activists and extroverts in the utopian ranks who were prepared to go on heroically from there. The dedication to something revered as revolution would transform “the great globe itself ‘-or, at least, one or two corrupt societies spinning thereon-sys-tematically and totally. “Utterly” in Yeats’ favorite phrase.
