ABSTRACT

The undemocratic nature of Chinese society has hampered every aspect of social development in China for the last thirty years. This is a problem that everyone today understands. In the face of this serious situation the people of China have only two alternatives: (1) if we want further development in our society, if we want accelerated development... we must reform our social system; (2) if we want to continue a Mao Zedong style dictatorship of the proletariat, then we can have no democracy.. .and we cannot attain any modernization of people’s lives or of production. China today stands at a crossroads where there is no other alternative. 1
