ABSTRACT

Although no one knows exactly how many Pentecostal and charismatic Christians there are, this cluster of movements is clearly one of the largest and fastest growing religious movements in the world (Jenkins 2002). 1 Some scholars argue it will soon become the predominant form of Christianity (Casanova 2001). In the U.S., charismatics and Pentecostals make up over 12 percent of the total population. In Africa, Asia, Oceania, and Latin America this cluster of movements constitutes even a larger percentage of Christians and is growing fast. Moreover, Pentecostal worship styles and spiritual emphases have spurred similar movements in other Protestant denominations and in the Catholic Church.
