ABSTRACT

After a brief look at the history of personality measurement, this book has examined the content of the field today. It has indicated what is available to the investigator pursuing basic research in personology. It has considered methodological concepts, techniques, and tools, and the diverse kinds of measuring procedures that are available. A major emphasis has been placed on what can and should be done, with exhortations to researchers to roll up their sleeves and do it. An underlying objective has been to challenge investigators in personology to avoid the path of least resistance, the easy tactical decision to accept some term current in conceptual thinking as if it were an adequate scientific construct and to employ accessible measuring procedures simply because others have used them and they seem rather applicable to the investigation being planned.
