ABSTRACT

Many women in the United States are living in a paradox. While changes in American culture have led to signifi cant improvements in women’s work and family lives, they still are frequently exposed to discriminatory polices and actions. This section examines the United States military context, an institution that embodies this paradox. While the military offer women certain opportunities, such as specialized training, college education, travel, and adventure, it is still steeped in male domination and gender discrimination.
