ABSTRACT

All famines have been terminated either by the removal of their necessary and supplementary causes or by the catastrophic exhaustion of the famine after it has taken its full toll of suffering and death. The removal of the necessary cause means the restoration of society's ability to procure the required minimum of food for its members. This restoration is possible only in societies with discipline and resourcefulness, reinforced by many favorable supplementary conditions. If human beings and societies were entirely rational and truly wise, the rebuilding of the new system of national or international values could be accomplished in a short time. Even more, under these conditions wars and revolutions would be avoidable. As soon as such societies saw their systems of values beginning to disintegrate, they would immediately pay attention to this most important issue. They would start a systematic revaluation of values, discarding the outlived ones and introducing new ones.
