ABSTRACT

This book has retold the axiomatic story of death. This is the story that began in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve’s disobedience of God. This is the continuing story of man’s rejection of God’s word and glories and, in consequence, of man’s rejection of life. The original sin is our sin today. We are born into an American life that enshrines Adam and Eve’s error, a life in which we think ourselves able to live without God. Attracted to the humanism 130of existentialism and the naturalism of the New Age, we are distracted from God. We have chosen a life that is no life. This is the spiritual story for too much of America today, a story that brings only hardship and sadness and despair. This we see in symptoms of a diseased American culture—in the end of nature, in failing marriage, in dissolving social ties, in a closing of the American mind, and in sexual relations oriented to personal pleasure rather than to family. And this we have seen in narcissistic sexualities that grow more dissolute and perverse. This is the nightmare story from which we must be redeemed.
