ABSTRACT
In this chapter, as in the previous one, I look forward based on an examination of the past developments. But in this essay, I do so less in the sense of technological potential and more in the sense of user needs and ways to assess them. I also review some major avenues where additional research and analysis are needed. The chapter ends by linking some of mankind's earliest cultural endeavors to those that continue today and in which mobile communication is playing an increasingly pivotal role.
