ABSTRACT

Considerable empirical and theoretical attention has recently been paid to the relationship between young people and mobile technologies, particularly mobile phones (cell phones) (Green 2001, 2002; Katz 1999; Weilenmann and Larsson 2001; Kasesniemi and Rautiainen 2002; Ling and Yttri 2001). Emerging research is tracing the impact of mobile communication on the lives of young people; indeed, such research also shows how young people themselves have contributed to the distribution and institutionalization of mobile technology (Katz and Aakhus 2002).
