Origin and Nature of Love
At first i want to describe the nature of the soil on which the precious plant of love grows. I shall emphasize these conditions—the psychical preparedness—much more strongly than the authors who have dealt with this subject before because I value its importance so highly. The psychologists seem to think, just as the lovers themselves, that love comes over people as something inevitable and impersonal like a bolt from the blue. The lovers seem to assume that the experience represents the solution of all problems. What they forget to mention is that there were problems before.
