ABSTRACT
As the analysis of the case materials was completed, our observations gave rise to a recognition of the importance of some related factors not central to the study as planned. Among these were the meaning of health and retirement as related to action theory, the rural-urban contrasts in relation to familism, and the implications of our findings for the theory of disengagement.
