ABSTRACT
Eduard Mörike’s work belongs primarily in the period of the Vormaerz, a time when German particularism is still identical with a reactionary domestic policy that enormously hinders the development of a free economy. Between 1815 and 1830, there exists no body of literature which is directly oriented toward the social problematic. All we have is a romantic enchantment of secular life.
