ABSTRACT
Meyer’s prose fiction appears at first to have nothing to do with sociological categories in either form or content. The presence of sociological information will, however, be the subject of this investigation. The question will be whether the meanings and functions noted by the sociologist were intended or sanctioned by the author, and whether their effect among the readers can be traced.
