ABSTRACT
Shirley Kenny has served as president of the State University of New York at Stony Brook since 1994. She came to Stony Brook from her presidency of Queens College of the City University of New York (1985-1994). Prior to that, she was the provost of arts and humanities at the University of Maryland, College Park. At Queens College, Kenny initiated a number of new curricula designed by leaders in the professions, for example, programs in the liberal arts and business and in journalism. She worked to build a foundation board and to begin private fund raising, as well as using capital funding to construct attractive facilities for the college.
